The Hunter Region School of Photography has been helping people into successful careers in the photographic profession for over 20 years. Students from the school can now be found all over Australia, working in many exciting areas of photography. Some have set up their own studios; others have found employment with newspapers, magazines, the film industry, and travel and general freelance photography.

 

Gordon Finn, a RAAF photographer, founded the school in 1987. After several years in Newcastle whilst based at RAAF Base Williamtown, he passed up the opportunity to teach at the Air Force's school of photography in Victoria, to remain in the area.

The school offers a wide range of courses and workshops, covering most aspects of photography. For people just wishing to improve their photography, Photographic Techniques #1, the foundation module for all the school's

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

courses, teaches the basics of photography through to the creative use of the camera. Students who have completed this short introductory course to photography are able to use their camera confidently and creatively.

 

 

 

 

 

As well as running the school, Gordon and Lyn specialise in aerial photography, industrial/commercial photography, architectural photography and advertising. Other areas they have been involved in include wedding photography, portraiture photography, medical photography and copy and restoration of old photographs.

 

 

 

 

For those seeking a career in photography, the school offers a Freelance Photography course, designed to produce photographers who are competent in a wide range of photographic fields. Gordon and his wife Lyn, are committed to the success of their students, and provide additional one on one tuition and use of the school's facilities outside of the course hours free of charge.
